These Waters Bleed Deep

This is the first short film in the ‘FLUID’ film series. “These Waters Bleed Deep” touches on the psychological and physical turmoil that the enslaved Africans faced as they crossed the Atlantic to the Americas, a tragic journey known as the Middle Passage. Still, we want to bring to light the vivacious splendor that is African culture. Through dance, fashion, lighting, and spoken word, this project aims to show the horrors of the past and the magnificence of what is and can be.

'FLUID' is an interdisciplinary dance film/art exhibition that takes an intimate look at the generational trauma of the African American community, exposing historical truths of the past while shining a light on the beauty of our future. Through the use multi-genre inspired choreography, spoken word sprinkled with historical truths, riveting visuals, and an homage to black hair and skin tone, ‘FLUID’ targets issues such as slavery/racism, colorism and self-hate, trauma and self-love, and religion and its intersection with sexuality and poses the question, “How can we heal?”.
